Are you using treats for training or for the occasional reward ? Forget those artificial flavor, chemical laden and enhanced with dyes of all colours treats. Yuck, the poor dogs. They don't win much interest from the dogs in a training class. Some of the best treats ever, in my opinion, are the homemade ones.

2 lbs. Ground beef – you can substitute beef for lamb, chicken or turkey etc.
1 cloves Fresh Minced Garlic
½ cup oats (bread crumbs)
2 eggs
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Dig in with your hands to start shaping meatballs. How big of a bite would you like to hand your dog or be able to break in two? Roll that amount into a ball and place them in a large baking pan or brownie pan lined with parchment paper . Bake for 1 hour or more at 350 degrees. Longer if you would like them a little dryer and crisp. Drain any fat and allow to cool on a rack or paper towels. Toss them into a large container and store them in the freezer.
Bread Machine Chicken Treats
1 cup chicken stock
1 cup flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
¼ cup skim milk powder
1 ½ tsp. Yeast (bread machine)
Use dough cycle. Put ingredients in . . . in recommended order.
Roll dough to ½ inch thick on floured surface. Cut with cookie cutter or pizza cutter.
Place on greased cookie sheet. Cover with plastic wrap & let rise in a warm place without any drafts, for 1 hour.
Bake at 325 degrees for one hour. When baked turn off oven and leave overnight. Store in air tight container.
Sunshine Liver Brownies
1 lb. beef/ pork liver
1 cup flour
½ cup corn meal
2 cloves fresh minced garlic
Puree all ingredients in a blender or food processor. (Make sure the tendons are removed from the liver, or they will tie up the blades of the blender).
Pour onto cookie sheet lined with oiled aluminum foil. Mixture will be thick. Press flat & even. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. They are done when the pink colour is gone. Don’t over bake, this recipe may be doubled. Store in fridge for up to 2 weeks
Beef flavored Pooch Cakes
2 small jars strained beef
Dash sugar
¼ cup non-fat dry milk powder
¼ tsp. salt
½ cup wheat germ
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together. Drop little balls of mixture onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
